When a Volkswagen moves across the starting ramp in Buenos Aires in January 2010 the brand can claim a unique presence. Volkswagen is the only automobile manufacturer to have experienced and helped to shape the early days as well as the more recent history of the Dakar Rally.
It was the biggest exploit in motorsport the Volkswagen brand had achieved so far: In January 2009 the factory squad from Wolfsburg clinched a one-two victory at the Dakar Rally.
They are the unseen helpers, the off-road "caddies”: the eleven MAN trucks in the Volkswagen team. Every day, they transport equipment and parts from bivouac to bivouac.
